Growing up in foster care and being adopted at the age of 15, I have personally experienced the profound impact that community support and educational programs can have on a young person’s life. During my childhood, I benefited from programs that provided essential school supplies to children in need, which alleviated some of the financial burdens faced by my family and helped me focus on my education. Additionally, I was part of the reduced lunch program, a vital resource that ensured I had access to nutritious meals during school hours. The generosity of others, whether through donations or volunteer efforts, left a lasting impression on me and underscored the importance of community involvement in supporting vulnerable youth.
When I was introduced to Tori Richard’s Corporate Citizen Council (CCC), I was excited to discover that our organization could actively give back to the community through volunteer work. This opportunity resonated deeply with me, as it aligned with my personal journey of overcoming challenges and seeking to make a positive difference. Partnering with The Laulima Giving Program and Keiki O Ka ‘Āina to support Title I students was especially meaningful, as it allowed us to directly contribute to the educational success of children who face similar hardships to those I experienced. It felt like coming full circle—transforming my past experiences into a source of motivation to help others succeed.
On behalf of the CCC, I want to express our sincere gratitude for the opportunity to connect with and support the keiki—children—who are the future of our community. We are committed to fostering an environment where every child has access to the resources and encouragement they need to thrive academically and personally. Mahalo nui loa for allowing us to be part of this impactful initiative. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners, ensuring they have the support and opportunities necessary to reach their full potential.
